Mobile World Congress 2015: At Glimpse
About 2000 exhibitors and thousands of delegates showcased their futuristic tech pieces at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona. The event ended two days earlier on 5th of march, but made a lasting impact in the World of Mobile Technology. This year we saw huge number of announcements in the long-lasting world of smartphones, wearables, tablets and other gadgets. Mobile world congress has always been full of excitement as every other company present there, has something in their hood that made the event much more interesting and innovative. Here’s a quick glimpse of What important took place at the Mobile World Congress 2015.
World of Smartphones.
Mobile World Congress has always saw major announcements in the world of smartphones. This year was yet another one where we saw huge announcements from all the Giant Smartphone makers. Samsung Electronics steal the show with their latest flagship devices Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which are loaded with hand-full of features making them the most anticipated handset’s of 2015. On the other hand HTC were also at their best announcing their flagship device HTC ONE M9, which also according to me, something that was note-worthy.
Although Microsoft didn’t look too impressive, but announced their two mid range handset Lumia 640 and 640 XL. Blackberry also made it to list with their flagship device Blackberry Leap which comes with all the latest specifications in the mobile platform and is targeted to ‘Young mobile professional’ company said. Since Samsung, HTC, Microsoft, Blackberry steal the show, there were also announcement’s made by Sony, Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo.
World of Tablets
Mobile World congress 2015 also saw some important announcements in the world of tablets. Sony came up their Xperia Z3 tablet that features 10.1 inch 2K display with 64 bit snapdragon 810 octa-core processor and also with LTE connectivity. Archos a French Multinational Electronics also came up with Archos Magnus series of tablet in their hood. The Archos tablet features huge storage capacity ranging from 128 GB to 256 GB internal storage along with microSd support.
JOLLA a crowd funded Finnish company also made mark with their Jolla tablet which runs on the Sailfish operating system that is designed for smooth multitasking , privacy and gesture based interaction making the tablet an exciting alternative. Among other’s were Nokia with their N1 tablet, Huawei with their Media Pad X2, Fujitsu with thair STYLISTIC V535.
World Of Wearables
Wearables are seen as next big thing in the world of mobile technology. MWC 2015 also saw some announcements in the world of wearables. Huewai Stole the show with not one but two wearables, HuewaiWatch and Talkband2. Huewai watch a Android wear smartwatch with 1.4 inch amoled dislay powered by 1.2 Ghz processor and more. Huewai concentrated on design and gave the smartwatch a more classic and traditional look. LG Also featured two smartwaches, Watch Urban and Urban LTE. Urban watch is an upgraded version of G Watch R whereas Urban LTE offers more with 4G antenna allowing users to make LTE phone calls, voice chat, share location and more.
Pebble also came up with their smartwatch Pebble time, a lightweight smartwatch thinner that earlier Pebble watch with e-paper screen and microphone for adding voice notes. Among others included wearables such as GRIP a tracking device from HTC, Runcible from Monohm.
The Future: At Glimpse
Mobile World Congress has always aimed at shaping the future by introducing the world with new innovation and technology other than mobile technology. This year we saw some important futuristic pieces of tech that could shape our tomorrow. Let’s have a glimpse :
- Virtual Reality Beyond Gaming: Virtual reality has always promised us to step us out of this world into whole new world. Virtual reality headsets were showcased at the MWC 2015 that promise to deliver us something beyond gaming. Tech Giants like Samsung, Microsoft, Google, Sony are pushing the limit and aims at providing us whole new experience in the world of Virtual Reality by connecting you smartphones with VR headsets and more.
- From 4G to the future 5G: There were interesting talks about the 5G as the future of mobile technology. Anne Bouverot, Director General of GSMA says, “We are talking of 5G transition that doesn’t exist today, but will exactly let us do things that 4G didn’t.” She added “4G doesn’t let us transmit 3D data, but that’s something 5G will be capable of”. But not sure about when will the 5G technology will come into play – Probably 2020.
- Connected Cars: Cars are simply not vehicles , they can also be smart as smartphones. At an event at MWC 2015 Audi and AT&T made an announcement that they are working together to provide user’s with 4G LTE technology in every Audi model in 2016. Your vehicle will be now be equipped with Audi connect – in-car wifi, navigation system, internet database and more. This will help you carry out all your function through voice letting your hands stay on the steering wheel and eyes on the road. That is something to look forward to.

Mobile World Congress has always been full surprises and excitement that enticed all the tech lovers to keep an eye on all the events. This year’s event has ended but the excitement remains in our mind and heart.
